Greek Life is an integral part of both Georgia Tech and the traditions that students uphold so strongly. Unlike most schools, Georgia Tech takes pride in its strong and responsible Greek system, and the Greek community enjoys this important role and the accomplishments that people have worked so hard to achieve here. The Greek community at Georgia Tech is the strongest group on Georgia Tech's campus. The average chapter size of a fraternity at Georgia Tech is 60 brothers, and Greeks represent 26% of the total undergraduate student body. You will be able to find Greek affiliated members in almost every organization on campus, and Greeks constitute the vast majority of important leadership positions.
Parents are sometimes cautious about letting their son become a member of a fraternity because of the reputation of the Greek community. As members of this community, we want to work to dispel some of these common misconceptions. First and foremost, we are a non-hazing entity and we mean it. The pledge process typically lasts a little less than a semester to allow for the person to become acquainted with the brotherhood and vice-versa. However, the time commitments are minimal. Georgia Tech is a very academically rigorous school, and commitment to our studies is why we are attending college in the first place. Next, our bylaws do not permit us to use chapter funds to purchase alcohol, and our budgets are reviewed by the school and our national organization every semester. In addition, every party at the house must be registered with the school, and security must be purchased by the fraternity. These are just a few of the steps that we go through to ensure responsible events and actions at the Alpha Nu chapter.
