Philanthropy by definition is the effort or inclination to increase the well being of humankind by charitable aid or donation. It has recently taken on the practical application of not only donating money but also donating time to worthy causes or events. Philanthropy is taken extremely seriously at the Alpha Nu chapter and within the Greek community in general. Every brother is required to serve a minimum of 20 hours of philanthropy each semester as organized by our philanthropy chair. Every pledge is required to serve a minimum of 10 hours of philanthropy. A few of the notable recent community service efforts by the Alpha Nu chapter include helping an Atlanta area homeless shelter serve food and get organized for the upcoming months, helping organize and set up a Run/Walk to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, and the Cooks Night Off event to benefit the Shirlock Foundation.

The Shirlock Foundation is a foundation started by Theta Chi alumni from the Alpha Nu chapter in memory of Brother Jonathan Shirlock who entered the chapter eternal in the Spring of 2006. The mission of the Shirlock Foundation is to ease the financial burden faced by families of college students who have been diagnosed with Leukemia.
