Theta Chi Crest

The Beginning

Alpha Sigma Tau, the group that later became Alpha Nu chapter of Theta Chi, was founded in 1919 by a group of upperclassmen at the Georgia School of Technology. During the fall of 1920 the organization secured and moved into its first house, launching what proved to be a successful career. This house was occupied for one year. In 1921 the organization moved into a new house, the First Alpha Nu chapter house, at 17 East North Avenue. In 1922 the chapter petitioned the grand chapter of Theta Chi for a charter. A charter having been granted, the Chapter was then installed into Theta Chi Fraternity on May 28, 1923, becoming the 36th chapter in the Fraternity. The first president of Alpha Nu was William F. Keenan. The first initiate was Floyd Field, who was the first Dean of Men at Tech, and for whom Field dormitory is named.

Our First True House

Floyd Field broke ground on our first true fraternity house on May 17, 1952, and Brother Robert Calvert donated the structural steel for the house. The dimensions of the house were 120 by 80 ft with a 30 by 50 ft. courtyard in the center. In the summer of 1962 the inner courtyard was replaced with a pool. This house served as the home of Alpha Nu until we built our current house in 2003.

The New House

In 2003, we completed the new house that brotherhood built. Forty four brothers live in the house. There are sixteen two person rooms and four three person rooms. Facilities include a full service kitchen, chapter room, dining room, pool table, ping pong table, library, laundry room, and a heated pool.
